OUR STORY

An ex-soldier and ex-school teacher, we have found a passion for sharing our farm and all the experiences it brings

Welcome to the Dent-ed Barn where we enjoy the opportunity to share with our guests everything that is ‘our place’. Purchased in 2014, your hosts Jo & Rob Barnes are constantly looking at how to present their guests with a ‘back to basics’ stay yet have the luxuries that allow visitors to be self sufficient.

We have a property that spans 90-acres where our livestock are able to be truly free range, living in wide open paddocks.  Our piglets are born on straw on a mud floor and always do well. With a large paddock dedicated to their lifestyle, they soon grow into good sized pigs for the freezer. Pork is regularly on the menu.

Our cattle have all either been born on the farm or have been here since they were 4-days old.  Hand rearing them means that often when wandering through the paddock; you will have the delights of a once tiny calf coming to see you up close. They just need to remember that they are grown up now.

We also have donkeys who are a delight to have around and a water buffalo named Tank. He is extremely friendly and enjoys human company.  He will grow into a giant weighing in at around 1000kg.

Back To Basics

The farm has no mobile coverage and whilst we have put in a small mobile cell covering the main areas, if you are willing to give it up, you will see that we can in fact live without our mobile devices. It also means that our guests actually have to communicate with each other in ways other than text message or telephone call.  An interesting concept for our younger guests but after day 1, we tend to find the removal from the daily stresses of work and modern life suits most guests just fine.
